Photography by: Come April

This past March. I was able to work with Come April to create this styled shoot. I wanted to make something that felt a little different, so instead of one bouquet I made three. With this editorial, my goal was to create flowers that felt sculptural, creative, and almost architectural. I wanted the bouquet to have shape, but still feel loose and alive up close. There was a lot of playing around with movement, texture, negative space, and how individual stems could change the overall shape of a design. I also wanted to push myself outside of the idea that wedding flowers always have to look soft and perfectly rounded. Sometimes a flower sticking out in an unexpected direction is the best part.

The downtown Portland setting made it even more fun. I loved putting something soft and organic against all of the harder lines and textures of the city. Concrete, architecture, and urban surroundings paired with flowers that were moving in every direction created the exact contrast I was hoping for.

This was one of those projects where I got to experiment a little more than usual, and honestly, that’s what I loved most about it. Not every idea has to become part of your everyday work. Sometimes it’s just fun to see what happens when you give yourself permission to try something new.
